In Her Own Time (IHOT)

A fine-art portrait, film and music project by Sourish Mukherjee, exploring quiet human presence and individuality with five artists, each in her own time.

In Her Own Time (IHOT) is a FOI Studios photography, film and music project created with Tanisha Atrey, Ashima, Monalisa, Sumita and Raini Pramanik.

I began IHOT with a simple intention: to give each woman room to be herself. Through fine-art portraits, lingerie photography and selected art-nude studies, the project explores individuality, quiet intimacy and the stories a photograph can leave unfinished.

The approach

Minimal styling, natural and motivated light, and attention to posture and expression shape the project. My focus is on human presence, preserving the small imperfections that make a portrait individual.

Rather than giving every image a fixed explanation, I want viewers to bring their own experiences to it. The same expression might suggest peace, distance or longing to different people. Those interpretations can exist together.

The photographs and moving images

The completed shoot produced 4,765 photographs, 12 videos and 14 behind-the-scenes recordings. These are capture totals, not the number of finished or published pieces. Collections are being selected and prepared for release, with access identified individually.

Photography was captured on the Sony α7 IV, using 35mm f/1.4 and ZEISS Batis 85mm f/1.8 lenses. Behind-the-scenes footage was recorded on the Nikon Z6.
