In Her Own Time: A Fine-Art Photography Project and Music EP

Sourish Mukherjee introduces In Her Own Time: a five-artist portrait project exploring individuality and quiet presence, with 4,765 photographs captured and a new four-track EP.
The shoot for In Her Own Time (IHOT) is complete. Created with Tanisha Atrey, Ashima, Monalisa, Sumita and Raini Pramanik, this FOI Studios project brings together fine-art portrait photography, films, behind-the-scenes recordings and music.
We captured 4,765 photographs across the sessions. This is the total photographed before selection and editing, rather than the number of images in the finished collections.
The idea behind IHOT
I began this project with a simple intention: to give each woman room to be herself, at her own pace.
The direction centres on minimal styling, natural and motivated light, and attention to posture and expression. I wanted to preserve individual gestures and small imperfections, allowing a quiet moment to hold our attention.
The project includes portraits, lingerie and art-nude studies. Across these approaches, my intention is to let each woman’s individuality guide the photograph.
I also want the images to remain open to interpretation. An expression might feel peaceful to one viewer and distant to another. Both readings can exist. The title, In Her Own Time, reflects that space to move, pause and be seen without being rushed into a fixed story.
Behind the photographs
Alongside the still photographs, we recorded 12 videos and 14 BTS recordings, bringing movement and the process of making the work into the project.
I photographed IHOT on the Sony α7 IV, using 35mm f/1.4 and ZEISS Batis 85mm f/1.8 lenses. Behind-the-scenes footage was captured on the Nikon Z6.

The project’s four-track EP was released on 30 October 2026 under FOI Music:
