Lighting the library set — three frames from a FOI night shoot

After the lights are struck

FOI Studios· 15 August 2026

A behind-the-scenes note from the FOI house: ARRI lamps, wet marble, an empty chair, a Nikon still warm.

The picture the public sees is the one with the light already decided. The picture we keep here is the one after.

Cables on marble. A cinema lamp still warm. A dining table that held a crew for twelve hours and then did not. Behind the scenes is not gossip. It is the labour of making a permanent image.

FOI will keep publishing these notes so the archive includes the cost of the frame.

The FOI dining hall under blue house light
The house, dressed.
Camera, candles and a circular sitting
Before the first frame.
Nikon on a tripod in the hall
The camera that stays.
Looking down the dining table toward the crew
After lunch, before the night.
A muse beside an ARRI lamp
The lamp is in the picture on purpose.
