What the camera recorded

The public rooms of FOI have always shown the picture. They have rarely shown the box that made it. This note is the box.

These numbers are not mood. They are what the files still hold — Sony EXIF written by a Sony Alpha 7 IV, and the analogue projects published on Behance and the Adobe Portfolio under Sourish Mukherjee.

Digital house body

Sony ILCE-7M4 (Alpha 7 IV). The three lenses that keep coming back:

• ZEISS Batis 85mm f/1.8 — muse studies. Typical: 1/200–1/400, f/3.2–f/5, ISO 640–1250. White balance set, not guessed (EXIF white-balance flag 1). Flash off.
• FE 100mm F2.8 Macro GM OSS — close work. 1/320, f/5.6, ISO 1250. Dated 12 April 2026 in the file.
• FE 24–70mm F2.8 GM II — rooms. At 24mm: 1/200, f/2.8, ISO 1250. Pattern metering.

Lightroom Classic is the grade. The files say so.

Analogue, as published on Behance

Shoot on 120 Film. Yashica Mat 124G. Kodak Portra 160 and Kodak Gold 200. Natural light, intuitive metering, no digital preview. The Behance project is the same work as the Adobe Portfolio page of the same name.

ZINE Edition 01 — Shoot on film. Zero Point, North Sikkim, 15,300 ft. Film only. No digital backups. The gap digital never closed.

Kodak Vision3 250D. 35mm motion-picture stock, scanned on a Fujifilm Frontier SP3000. A daylight test with Saptami Banerjee — colour, texture, the depth of real film.

The house as a lamp

Tungsten practicals. Candlelight against cold window-blue. Godox when a room needs a decided edge. ARRI on film days, left in the frame so the picture admits it was made.

BTS is often an iPhone 12 or iPhone 14 Pro. Those files are dated too. They are not the art. They are how the art was stood up.

The Photography room now carries this kit as a living note. When a sitting changes the body or the stock, we will date it here — not as a spec sheet, as a record.
